Update on sheba

Well yesterday we went back to the vet. We were mad because when I took the tape covering her pain patch off I found it had been STAPLED to her!!!!!! We love this place we take her. It had been done right before we left because her patch was lifting off. But she should have. retyped it. Puncturing a pain patch is dangerous. I called her doc immediately and she was doing a staff meeting. When we came in to get her staples out she took a picture and she took care of it that way it would never happen to another animal again.

So...we left with a good report and about fifteen minutes in she starts foaming at the mouth and drooling like crazy.w Her gums turned pale...we thought we were going to lose her. So we rushed her back and ended up being nausea and she had a vagel response. They gave her two nausea shots and then she was better and was sent home.

I got my prairie Schooler Santa in the mail and it is beautiful.

Sheba's news

We got some unsettling news yesterday. Turns out her tumor was malignant stage 2 out of 3 and a very aggressive kind:(
The type of cancer is called hemangiosarcoma. Its is a cancer made up from the lining of blood vessels so it is very vascular when it grows. German Shepherds are predisposed to this. Our vet and surgeon want us to do chemo. On dogs the side effects are very mild. Without it we would only have a few months but with it and a stableizer after we could have a year or longer with her having a good quality of life. So we have decided to do this. Wednesday is her first treatment. She will get her stitches out as well. She will get five treatments ..one every three weeks. The medicine they will use is Doxorubicin. Then after it will be Cyclophoshamide. Please pray for her. We want her to be healthy as long as possible. The vet said though she is 14 her health is like a 9 yr. old. We are upset but determined to make the best of the situation.

Thank you to Pam and Dad for all their support. When dad heard she needed surgery he said he wanted to pay for it. They are both so loving and and generous. We pray many blessings upon them. How wonderful to be blessed with such awesome family.

Sheba is home!!!

We brought our baby home last night and she is doing really well. She has to rest for three weeks. We should get the pathology back on Monday and find out if the tumor was benign . Please keep praying that it was. The tumor weighed over 4lbs. It was all blood vessels. So when it bled no wonder she had problems. We are so thankful to God and he gets all the glory and honor and praise for bringing her through this without complications.

She is very happy to be home and we are happy she is too.

Visiting Sheba.

Came to visit my baby after my IU appt. She looks great. At first she wouldn't eat and I was a little worried. Her nurse brought in a leash and told me i could walk here. So we went around the building. When she came back I gave her some fries from Steakhe n Sheake. She ate the fries and rested a minute. The salt must have woke up her appetite because it wasn't much later that she ate all of her soft food and also fries and part of her hamburger. She is resting right not.

Here is her belly scar.

And here we are paws touching

Out of surgery

Sheba is out of surgery. She made it through well. The surgeon was wonderful and he took the whole spleen out. He took his time and really was careful. We are so relieved. Our surgeon said he's seen a lot of tumors and in older dogs they are usually malignant. But he said by appearance it didn't look like a malignant tumor. It was in a strange place on the spleen though. He let us peek through the ICU window to see her and it was good to look at her. He says the next 24-36hrs are the critical ones where things can go wrong. We will get to see her tomorrow night.

Here is where Sheba is...

Please keep praying that she won't have any internal bleeding. You all have been awesome praying for her. We get the pathology report back at the end of the week for the spleen and they also did a biopsy of her liver.

The good news....she made it through and is comfortable on pain meds.

In surgery

Sheba does need surgery to remove her tumor on her spleen . She is in surgery right now. It sure is hard putting someone that you love into someone else's hands and trusting God through it all. All I know is I want my baby back healthy and happy with news that it is benign. We should know in a few hours how it all went. Please keep praying.

Cooking and update on Sheba

Sheba did ok through the night and is gaining strength. She is happily resting with paws crossed after mommy let her lick out the biscuit pan.

Please keep praying for her. Her appetite is better and more interested in what's going on. Please pray that there will be no more bleeding. That God would just heal her and when they do the ultrasound the tumor would be gone. Or if God chooses to use the surgeons at the big animal hosp in Indy to successfully remove the tumor and that it won't have metastasized. We love her sooooo much.

Jim was hungry for homemade biscuits and gravy so I found a recipe by Betty Crocker. We used chicken sausage instead of regular sausage.

The gravy was the perfect consistency. I don't know how to link to the recipe with my phone app for blogger but go to www.recipe.com and type in the search ...biscuits and gravy... it will be on the first screen just scroll down..

Sheba thanks you for the prayers.

Prayers needed urgently

Our baby...which is a 14 yrs old German shepherd is quite ill. She collapsed last night and we were worried we might lose her. We took her to the emergency vet she did X-rays and found that Sheba has a tumor on her spleen. It has little nodules that rupture and cause her to lose a lot of blood which makes her weak and collapse. We are taking her to Indianapolis Mon. for an ultrasound and then a biopsy and surgery to take it out if it hasn't spread. Please pray for her. She is my medical dog and we want her to feel better. We love her so much. We got Sheba shortly after we got married. Being dog parents is so hard right now. I wish i could just fix her . I can't even image how painful it would be to have a child sick. It just breaks our hearts that she is going through this.

Please pray she would make it through the weekend without another episode of internal bleeding.

Also that the tumor would be benign an only involve the spleen.

For safety through the surgery.

And please pray for us to hold each other up. For strength and peace and wisdom to make the right choices. Thank you so very much. I will keep you updated.

Here she is on her bed with favorite pillow.

And here she is at my sister Pam's house when we visited in Michigan.

Sheba has saved my life a few times. She is a special dog. She can tell if my sugars are off and neurological things to. Please take a minute or two out of your day to pray for her. I have gotten to know a lot of you and your friendship means a lot to me. I'm grateful for you.

Blessings
Sarah Beth

Hope you are doing great today. The sun is out and I'm thankful about that. Yesterday was cloudy and that always gets me down. Though I'm feeling better today. Does anyone have suggestions on beating depression that comes on when its not sunny.

I am loving the new mystery series by Rita Mae Brown that has the two dogs in it.

Well that's about all. God bless

Happy Lords Day

Church was awesome today. A representative from the Association for Rehabilitation Ministry ARM. Its prison ministry. I was floored at how many prisons there are here in the US. It just brought me to tears at the amount of broken people in jail. Plus think of all the broken people that are victims of these prisoners. The world just really needs Jesus. I have been going back and forth about being a volunteer in prison ministry. There is a ministry called Crossroads. I had a manual to learn to be a mentor to an inmate by correcting bible study tests and answering letters. Its all anonymous and only a first name is given. All the communication goes through the organization. For instance I would receive a test and possibly questions from the organization. I would correct and answer questions then mail back to crossroads. Then crossroads checks everything to make sure there is no identifying info and they send it back to the inmate along with the next lesson.

Anyhow because of something that happened to me I though it might upset me too much to do it and I threw it away. After hearing this man I am ashamed I did this when God had given me a burden for them. I will reorder the training and go forward with becoming a mentor. God loves everyone he created and doesn't want anyone to be lost. He tells us to treat everyone as if they were Him for we will be judged for what we've done and not done for the least of these. I'm reminded of Jonah who ran from the work God told him and so he was swallowed by a whale. I don't want God to have to get my attention. I say yes Lord. I will do your will.

My secret sis gave me my presents for January and February. Here they are.

My CNA painted my toenails on Friday. I think my little piggies are super cute. Amy gives good pedicures.

And here is Miss K taking a Sunday cat nap.

Cooking.

Boy I have been cooking up a storm. The Lord has really given me some wonderful good days. I am sleeping well. Turns out one of my asthma meds was interfering with my sleep causing a sleep disorder. I have so much energy I have cooked three homemade meals. The first one was sauerkraut short rib with brown sugar. Then I made oven fried boneless chicken breast. Two days ago I made homemade potatoe soup

And potatoes salad

And ribbon jello.

It all turned out delicious. I thank God for all the energy he has given me. Turns out one of my asthma medicines caused a sleep disorder. It was singular. Jim found info about it and told me. At first I figured it wasn't doing that but God kept prompting me to trial stop it and guess what ....much better sleep and no sitting up while sleeping and moving around. Praise God.
My first post was longer but I had trouble posting.
